Move over NPR! It’s NCR: National Corporate Radio

I’ve been nothing less than disappointed with NPR over the past decade – and I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed their downward slide as corporate sympathisers.

A performance troupe came out several years ago called NCR which has mocked NPR’s demise, and I’m happy to share their comedy stylings with you.

If you enjoyed it, please share this!

My “Six Degrees of Separation” Story

I just discovered last night that my mother’s former landlady from the early 80′s later became the U.S. Treasurer under George W. Bush.

My head is spinning.  How did I not know this until now?

Seriously.  How could I have missed this? I’ve been paying attention to politics my whole life. Or so I thought…

In the early 80′s, after my mom sold the house we grew up in, she rented a house in L.A. for a short time.  The woman she rented the property from was a young realtor in her mid-20′s (probably just a few years older than me).  I remember the woman as being a little odd, but friendly.  I only met her once.

But what I do remember is my mom saying this:  “Boy if that woman ever runs for office, I’ve got the goods on her”.  Years later, I remember my mom telling me that this woman was running for mayor of the neighboring city, Huntington Park.  And that was the last thing I remember about this woman.  Her secrets, whatever they were, are safe with my mom (R.I.P.)…and my failed memory.

Long story short…

I  moved …or rather we moved…and never paid any attention to this woman again.

I really should’ve been paying attention because I had no idea that this same odd woman had not only become mayor – but ended up becoming the first latina U.S. Treasurer of the United States.

My head is STILL spinning.

Anyway… that’s my “six degrees of separation” story.

Here is her info:  Rosario Marin

What’s strange about her, now, is I can’t seem to find any info on her past prior to her becoming Mayor of Huntington Park.  Ohhhh…if only I could remember what my mom had said about her!  There is a short write-up at http://watchourcity.com/index_03-05-09.html about a number of scandals she was involved in.  But if only mom were still here, she’d be able to talk about the ones that were alive in her pre-mayoral days!

She was once my mother's landlady

Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko “Greed is Good” Speech

Recently on Twitter, I’ve noticed a lot of conservatives defending the GOP and Wall Street’s position in this economic mess of ours.  Of course they blame Obama, but are completely uninformed about how we got here.

Their pro-Wall Street position reminded me a little of the infamous speech proclaimed by many GOP supporters as one of the most inspiring ever.

Honestly.  Professing that “greed is good” is like saying “corruption is a godsend to mankind”.

I honestly don’t think they’ve seen the rest of the movie if they honestly consider Gordon Gekko a “hero”.

We are in the mess we are in today BECAUSE of Wall Street’s uncontrollable greed, passion for deregulation, and penchant for something I’d rather call “legalized online gambling”.

I think it would be a good thing to remind ourselves of the myth Gordon Gekko believed in – that “greed” is somehow “good”

Breitbart says “Fire the first shot” — “We have the guns”

Breitbart insists that they [GOP] have the guns and the military but that the left has “union thugs” – so the left should simply “bring it on”.

Uhm….The only real thugs in this battle are the ones with the guns, Breitbart.
