If you can’t spare anything right now, please repost this feed on your blog or Tweet about it. We need to remove Wall Street corporations from our elections if we ever want to protect our democracy. If we fail, we will have another Bush in the White House – and that’s exactly what Wall Street is praying for.
We need to do ALL we can to make this thing really happen.
In the 60′s and 70′s, secret government operations used to seek information about dissent activity and left-leaning groups by using spies or infiltrators to possibly destroy them from the inside. These were cointelpro programs that often targeted civil rights groups and leaders. High-profile targets included John Lennon, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King. The operation was a repeat of McCarthyism-era witch-hunts, which sought to expose and destroy anyone the government deemed “anti-American”.
Well, not surprisingly, that kind of oppressive activity is still going on – and in an even stronger and more subversive way than ever before. Thanks to legalized, yet unconstitutional, spying of private citizens who are involved in completely lawful, organized, and peaceful protests. The new program is called “Fusion“. I was approached last night via Twitter by someone who I think might have been connected to such an organization. I was sent a link that directed me to a website filled with photos of Wall Street protesters. What caught my attention was the header on the website which had a logo for an organization called “Fusion“. As of last night, I was completely unfamiliar with the name or who they are. I knew that cointelpro programs existed, but I didn’t know about this one.
The whole experience spooked me to no end. I guess because I never really thought it would “happen to me”. The whole idea of being approached by someone who may or may not have been tied to some kind of government-run spy ring has me feeling slightly violated.
And as if that were enough…the media blackout has given the whole resistance movement an even darker edge.
The Revolution will NOT be televised
We have a completely corporate-owned media which has basically blocked out all coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement (hashtags: #occupywallstreet #usdor #sept17). This blackout isn’t really surprising at all to me. The very people who own Wall Street also own all of our media organizations. Media blackouts were to be expected. Go figure.
Journalism in this country is dead. But it’s not dead by choice, incompetence, or any kind of lack of demand by viewers or readers. It is dead because of the dark and oppressive hand that refuses to let the general public see what is happening.
So we’ve got corporate-controlled media, suppression of information, and a complete blackout of a major resistance happening in the most powerful financial sector in the world. And now we have underground spies trying to infiltrate and stop the movement before it gets even bigger – which it undoubtedly will.
