“Myths” about Kagan aren’t – They’re more like “Poison Pills”

The left is for some strange reason defending the Kagan choice.

Initially, the only reason I thought I might like her is because she’s more than likely a lesbian. I’m a little biased. If she is (and rumors are out there that she is indeed), then I would think that she’s someone who has got some “umpf” in the courtroom. Someone who can hit back when she’s hit hard.

But last night, I really changed my mind about her. It was during the Rachel Maddow Show (did you catch it??). Rachel played an audio clip of Kagan and Justice Roberts during the Citizens United case. Kagan was a basket case in the audio clip.

After that sad piece of audio, I knew exactly why Obama picked this woman. He picked her because she CAN’T fight! She stammers and gets tongue-tied, is easily flustered and confused. She’s supposed to be a lawyer – not a verbal flounder!!!! My head was spinning, trying to understand why we would want such a horrible orator on our damned side! No wonder she dropped the ball in the Citizens United case. She probably can’t even argue her way out of a sick day home from work!

Then today, on Media Matters (my heroes – usually), I saw the following list — why Kagan should be defended – basically trying to debunk “myths” about Kagan from the right-wing: (I put my notes after “ANSWER:”)

MYTH: Kagan’s Policies On Military Recruiters Make Her “An Anti-Military Zealot” …

ANSWER: This court needs an “ANTI-MILILTARY ZEALOT” who is willing to stand up to the military industrial complex which has kept us at war and profiting off it for the past 9-years

MYTH: Kagan’s Thesis Shows She’s A Socialist …

ANSWER: This country needs balance – we need socialism as much as we need capitalism. What we really need is responsibility and truth-telling. The banksters on Wall Street need to see the inside of a jail cell – and Obama’s not earning trust by protecting these crooks instead of prosecuting them.

MYTH: Kagan Is Unqualified Because She Hasn’t Been A Judge

ANSWER: It’s called standards. Everyone believes in mavericks who buck the system – People who break the mold and can prove they are up to snuff without being the stereotypical image of something. I still want a judge “type” who has actual written opinions – Someone who has demonstrated, in writing, what their belief system is. Don’t make me guess or wonder. Give me some evidence I can point to! I don’t want a f*cking chameleon as a judge – someone who blends in like a wallflower. I want a fighter – not a flower.

WATCH: Fox’s Bream: Kagan Is “Brilliant” And A “Consensus-Builder” … Fox Hosts SCOTUS Expert Who Debunks Myth That Kagan Isn’t Qualified … Napolitano: Kagan’s “Credentials Are Impeccable” … Fox Anchor: “[E]verybody Seems To Agree” Kagan Has “An Incredible Mind, A First-Rate Intellect”

ANSWER: I DON’T WANT A CONSENSUS BUILDER – I WANT A F*CKING **FIGHTER**

As Expected, Limbaugh Calls Kagan “Elitist Radical,” “Babe”

ANSWER: Who the hell even cares about Rush calling her a babe????!!

Fox Claims Kagan Has “No Experience” … By Contrast, Several Fox Reporters And Legal Experts Highlighted Kagan’s Experience … Note To Media: Dozens Of Supreme Court Justices And Two Of The Past Four Chief Justices Had No Prior Judicial Experience

Hannity’s Answer To “Who Is Elena Kagan” Relies On Four Falsehoods In Less Than 2 Minutes … Right-Wing Media Falsely Claim Kagan Is “Anti-Military” … Beck: Kagan Is “[A]nother Left Activist” … Limbaugh: Kagan “Is A Pure Academic Elitist Radical”

ANSWER: Am I supposed to believe this? A pure academic?? I’d LOVE it if she actually were!!

Basically, I think that Kagan is a poison pill from Obama to the left. We’re supposed swallow the B.S. about Kagan being a great debater. If we don’t fight against this nomination, it will be the end of the leftwing as we know it. Obama has already decided there will not be any prosecutions against Bush, and has nothing but Bush leftovers on his cabinet. Hell, we’re stuck carrying Bush & Cheney’s water with their Wall Street boyz Geitner and Paulson.

Ugh. My head hurts!

About Ginger

About me...let's see... I guess I'm just another tree-huggin', commie, Cheetos-eating, pajama-wearing, unemployed blogger. I'm anxious and vainly optimistic about where the country is headed, and openly dreaded the day Bush ever came into political office...I''m not happy about having a party filled with spineless "oh we need to cherish the blue dog dems" ...but I'm also glad that we are finally moving away from the cliff we were all teetering on for the past decade. What bothers me most is the fact that too few people today understand how incredibly dangerous our government has become or how unreliable and weak our news sources are. I'm not just talking about Fox. I'm talking about the bulk of the mainstream media. It's not liberal - and it's certainly not fair or balanced. My kind of news reporting was the kind I grew up in the 70s, and clearly remember a time when the so-called liberal media was all about reporting the cold, hard facts, filled with investigative journalism, and anchors or reporters who refused to do fluff pieces - like cats stuck in trees, water-skiing squirrels, and Darwin-award-winning idiots who would do anything to make themselves into a news story. Being a reporter meant something more noble than a fat paycheck. You did your job because you wanted to get the truth out there. Now? You're mostly smeared or called a tin-foiled-hat-wearing lunatic of you find out - and expose - any kind of government or corporate corruption. The upside of today's kind of media? Bloggers are a new breed of journalists - ready to hit the streets...err digital webspace... and have helped get a president elected, and a fascist dictatorship out of power.
